Launch of the “EU for Health Security in Africa: Africa CDC-European CDC partnership”

Organised with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the event marks the launch of the “EU for health security in Africa: ECDC for Africa CDC” initiative.

The aim of the new partnership project is to contribute to strengthening Africa CDC capacities in preparedness and response to health threats, contribute to facilitating harmonised surveillance outbreak-prone communicable diseases at continental level, and support the implementation of Africa CDC’s public health workforce development strategy. This long term partnership between the two specialized agencies of the AU and the EU dedicated to health security is a concrete materialization of AU and EU commitment, emphasized by the COVID-19 pandemic, to expand their collaboration in health and to address sustainable health security preparedness for outbreaks.
