Friends of Europe Ukraine's future: a discussion on a just and lasting peace 2025

What happened?

Ukraine’s security is our security. Three years since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia remains committed to its illegal war. Ukraine has surpassed all expectations. But this is a challenging moment. It is more important than ever to demonstrate unity of purpose and action. While we need to keep Ukraine in the fight for this year and beyond, it is hard to ignore the growing conversations about the end of the conflict. This event engaged young leaders and innovators in a conversation on Ukraine’s future – and securing a just and lasting peace.

Friends of Europe partnered with the UK Mission to the EU for this debate as part of the Leadership in the Face of Global Challenges speaker series, designed for and with young thinkers. Speakers provided examples of sector-specific leadership that addresses the questions: what is the future for Ukraine that Ukrainians are fighting for? What would peace mean for Ukraine in both the short and long term? What can European allies do to support them? Can Ukrainians expect justice? And can both peace and justice be achieved together?
