The EU’s special envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, said today that the region should understand that membership in the European Union is a unique opportunity, that countries in the Western Balkans have made some progress, but that corruption still represents a serious threat.

He said at the EU-Western Balkans summit organized by the Brussels think tank “Friends of Europe” that the region should first wake up from its lethargy, for which he proposes two options.
