EXCLUSIVE - EU Delegation to China Ambassador shares outcomes of Charles Michel and Xi Jinping meeting with Friends of Europe

December 1, Brussels – Having met at 10am for almost 2 hours, Jorge Toledo Albiñana, Ambassador at the EU Delegation of China, says that the EU hopes they can soon announce a high-level structured dialogue on human rights between the EU and China.
Coming directly out of his meeting with Charles Michel and Xi Jinping in China, Albiñana joined Friends of Europe’s Europe-China Forum, held in Brussels on Thursday, with key outcomes from the high-level ministerial meeting.
Seven of Xi Jinping’s ministers were in attendance for what Albiñana described via videolink as a “substantive, interesting, frank but constructive” dialogue he had with the Chinese president and the President of the European Council.
“We do no good by not talking to each other,” Albiñana said.
Albiñana said that Charles Michel will brief member states soon.
The Europe-China Forum, the first conference Friends of Europe have held since the beginning of the pandemic, brought together ambassadors and private sector leaders for a debate on how the EU and China can manage their differences in climate, trade, and development initiatives.
