In an analysis requested by Lusa, the Friends of Europe think tank lamented that “just as in the past, and over decades, it appears that the right and the extreme right dominate the debate and define the agenda of the debate, despite not being gifts.”

“As always, the center and the center-left respond to this agenda and become more restricted and defensive on issues of migration and human rights. Given the serious and significant economic, political and geopolitical problems that Europe faces, together with the impact of climate change and Artificial Intelligence, none of the debates addressed the issues essential to people and communities across Europe”, criticized the think tank.

Friends of Europe also doubts the effectiveness of these debates between ‘Spitzenkandidaten’ in motivating the almost 400 million European voters to vote within two weeks.
