Politico: NATO doesn’t need to refight the Cold War

There is a lot NATO should be doing. It needs to upgrade its air policing and conduct enhanced collective defence exercises to ensure that its strategy of “rapid reinforcement in crisis” works in practice, and that allied forces are able to operate together with standard equipment and communications. Overall, it would be best advised for NATO to refrain from using its hard power when getting involved in the war in Ukraine and instead rethink its strategy from a soft power and background support perspective.
