Debating Security Plus

Introduction

Debating Security Plus (DS+) is a global online brainstorm that aims to yield concrete recommendations to global security challenges. It builds on Friends of Europe‘s experience with other online debates and gathers several thousand experts around the world. For its seventh edition in 2019 DS+ will bring together a community of senior international participants from the military, government and multilateral institutions along with voices from NGOs and civil society, business and industry, the media, think tanks and academia.

Debating Security Plus (DS+) 2019, will gather a community of global security experts who will come together throughout the year to discuss the changing nature of warfare and its implication for the global thinking on peace, security and defence. DS+ offers a full year of activities and debates online, we are inviting high-level peace, security and defence influencers to exclusively engage with the members of our community directly to devise innovative solutions to global security issues in changing times. The thinking and ideas generated will be fed into a report setting out concrete recommendations on a way forward in today’s rapidly evolving security environment.

In previous years, our security brainstorms have pulled together thousands of participants, and their recommendations were fed into the policy thinking that shaped NATO’s Strategic Concept in 2010 and the EU’s Global Strategy in 2016.
